A Sport of Skill and Tactics. Croquet is a challenging sport that involves a unique combination of ball control, strategy, angles, and guile, and is often described as a mixture of chess and snooker on a lawn. Great satisfaction can be derived from outwitting the more skilled opponent because in croquet the head is as important as the mallet.
At Ipswich Croquet Club we play two forms of croquet. Both can be played for fun or competitively up to international level. The older and more complex is Association Croquet (AC); while Golf Croquet (GC) can be picked up and played by beginners very quickly. GC can be the quicker and more sociable, and is the preferred game with many of our club members.
Facilities. Our pavilion and two full sized lawns, known as courts, enjoy the beautiful parkland setting of Fynn Valley Golf Club, with whom we share their magnificent club house amenities.
A Warm Welcome to Newcomers. If you want to pit your skills and wits against a worthy opponent, or simply while away a balmy summer’s evening in convivial company, Ipswich Croquet Club offers it all.
At Ipswich Croquet Club the game is enjoyed by all ages and genders, and we pride ourselves on being most friendly and welcoming to visitors and members alike whether absolute beginners or experienced experts.
So please come along to one of our club sessions. An introductory game will cost you nothing and there will be a friendly face to show you the ropes. We have the equipment; all you will need to bring is a pair of flat-soled shoes.
Club sessions are held every Monday and Wednesday from 2pm to 4pm, and additionally during the summer every Tuesday and Thursday from 6pm to 8pm.
