A New Director of Golf for Fynn Valley
Our advertisement of the vacancy at last autumn drew interest locally, nationally and from abroad. We believe that, subsequent to many local golf professionals participation in the Suffolk Open at the Club, word has spread about how well the greenkeepers are developing our course, the new on-site facilities and how welcoming and friendly our members are. It’s a very exciting time for Fynn Valley and we’re delighted to have received such an overwhelming response.
From all the applications received, we selected and interviewed 5 PGA professionals, all of whom were of a particularly high calibre. Nonetheless, there was one particular candidate – Daniel Barton – who stood out for us.
Daniel is a talented player, but, more importantly, he was one of our own highly successful Fynn Valley Juniors, representing Suffolk as a youngster through to playing for the men’s first team.
Dan went on to become part of the England junior squad and won various amateur, county and professional tournaments and events. After turning professional under Paul Wilby at Fynn Valley in 2003, Dan played in the National Assistant’s Championship twice, the EuroPro and Thomson Tours and competed in the European Tour qualifying school.
After qualifying, Dan joined Seckford Golf Club as their Head Teaching Professional, followed by a five year spell at Felixstowe Golf Centre, before heading out of Suffolk to Cannington Golf Club in Somerset as their Head Professional and Golf Club Manager. Dan was promoted to the overall running of all aspects of the Golf Club facility, including becoming Director of Golf for the Team BTC college golf team, which he has done incredibly successfully for the last 4 years.
Dan obtained a Level 3 Coaching qualification and progressed to a Foundation Degree in Business Management, Sports Science, Equipment Technology and Golf Coaching. He also trained in club fitting and coaching with Foresight Sports technology and is a level 2 SPI Certified instructor with the SPI Seemore putter institute.
It is with great delight that we can announce that Daniel has agreed to come back to Suffolk and be part of the Fynn Valley team as Director of Golf and will join us on Monday 3rd February 2020.
Dan, by his own admission, is like a stick of rock; Fynn Valley through and through! He is highly enthusiastic about coming back and can’t wait to get started and see some of his old friends and playing partners, as well as meeting lots of new members and helping us make Fynn Valley a truly great place to play golf.
